The project began when a Chatham homeowner sought NSLA's expertise after their previous contractor went out of business. Originally tasked with routine maintenance, Zac Karr quickly realized the opportunity for a complete lighting overhaul using the existing high-quality fixtures and filling in with additional fixtures. "The equipment was top-notch but underutilized in design. We saw a chance to reimagine the space entirely," Zac notes.
By removing, cleaning, and updating the existing fixtures with high quality LED lamps, we preserved the client’s investment while significantly enhancing the lighting quality and design.
Design Philosophy: Harmonizing Functionality & Aesthetics
Zac Karr's approach melds technical acumen with a keen eye for aesthetic detail, a philosophy evident in every aspect of the Chatham project. Tree-mounted down lighting now accentuates a playset area, ensuring safety for nighttime play while creating a whimsical ambiance. Strategic accent lighting breathes life into ornamental trees—cherry trees, dogwoods, and Japanese maples—turning them into stunning visual features that anchor the garden’s design.
Existing wall-mounted lights were repurposed to enhance safety and visibility around steps and driveways, demonstrating our commitment to functional design. Zac emphasizes, "It's not just about making the garden look beautiful at night. We focus on how each element works together to create a safe, inviting outdoor environment."
