Architectural Outdoor Lighting: Illuminating a Sea Girt Coastal Showpiece

Nestled just two blocks from the pristine beaches of Sea Girt, this year-round home seamlessly combines architectural excellence with the charm of the Jersey Shore. For our returning clients, this property posed a unique challenge and an opportunity to transform its architectural intricacies into a nightly work of art. Our team was eager to create an outdoor lighting design that would not only meet our clients’ needs but far exceeded their expectations.

This property, though architecturally stunning, presented a tight landscape with close property lines, requiring us to leverage our experience and creativity. Our primary challenge was to elevate the home's exterior with lighting. It had to highlight its unique features while harmonizing with the surrounding neighborhood. To illuminate the architectural detail, we employed a combination of structure-mounted color-coordinated fixtures, carefully selected for their quality and aesthetic appeal. These fixtures, made of solid copper and white electrostatic powder-coated brass, were a perfect match for this coastal gem. They not only withstand the salty air but also create a rich, beautiful patina over time.

Overcoming Lighting Challenges with Precision & Exceptional Detail

At the front of the home, with its lower level roofline and arch featuring highly detailed architectural elements, we installed gutter-mounted accent fixtures. These fixtures not only serve a functional purpose by lighting the upper levels but also complement the architectural intricacies, highlighting the home's multidimensional facade. The lighting design also involved installing LED bulbs in lanterns and integrating them into an automated lighting control system that compliments, not conflicts with, our designer’s newly installed lighting.

The heart of this installation lies in the core-drilled, recessed uplights elegantly integrated into the backyard patio and pergola. These strategically placed fixtures illuminate the spaces with a warm and inviting glow. We also mounted uplighting to the chimney, adding a touch of brilliance to the home's vertical elements.

The exterior of this home demanded lighting that would enhance its limited yet lush landscape material. Crape myrtle trees, a Jersey shore staple, were artfully illuminated, casting delicate shadows against the home's exterior. The continuous arborvitae hedge that encloses three sides of the property was accentuated, providing both privacy and an elegant transition between the home and its surroundings. A unique directional path light was chosen to not only guide the way but also to bring light to the lower perennials. This choice, like the others, embraced the coastal environment, featuring natural copper construction that would gracefully patina over time.
