Rolling Hills At Bernardsville: An Artfully Designed Illumination
The process began with a collaborative design consultation, where our lighting designer, Zac Karr, met with the clients to understand their vision. For this grand estate in Rolling Hills with a storied history, the client sought to accentuate the stately architectural details of the center hall colonial. The imposing brick facade emerged as the showstopper, and our task was clear: to make it radiate with timeless elegance.
Directional up lights were meticulously placed to ensure an even wash of light across the front facade, casting a warm glow that highlighted the intricate architectural features. The foundation, deliberately left dark, served as a strategic choice to maintain focus on the facade itself. A mature oak tree in the front lawn, flanked by ornamental trees such as Japanese Maples, Dogwoods, and Cherry trees, became a canvas for artful uplighting, creating a captivating interplay of light and shadows.
As the sun sets over Rolling Hills, the facade transforms into a masterpiece of light, paying homage to the architectural heritage of the estate.
A Safe & Secure Backyard Escape
The enchantment extends seamlessly into the backyard, where the landscape unfolds like a nocturnal symphony. Path lights, strategically positioned along multiple walkways, steps, and stairways, not only provide functional illumination but also weave a luminescent tapestry that guides guests through the expansive grounds.
One of the unique challenges presented by the client was the need for security lighting beneath the deck. Given the multiple windows offering potential access points to the house, our team responded with innovation. Two small, yet powerful, deck-mounted down-lights were discreetly installed to brighten the area, addressing security concerns without compromising the overall aesthetics of the landscape.
